"Kiss the Dark" —words borrowed from an ancient Irish Poem by artist L. Mylott Manning, who created a piece of the same title- essentially a dress, covered in various watches set to different times. In Manning's words, it is about taking steps into the unknown, leaving comfort zones and having faith in one’s own success.

Michael Durek aka theUse, created “Time Pieces” for the opening of “Kiss the Dark” at a boutique watch store in Manhattan called House of Horology. It was performed with an accompanying video from Jim Tuite.

In creating the track, “Time Pieces”, theUse shirks structures found on his debut release, and ditches looped drum clips in favor of hand programming and playing every note. The ghost-like manipulated voice of his sister-in-law can be heard teaching his nieces to say “Shu Shu” - which means "Uncle" in Mandarin. Durek recorded a sweet moment in a rose garden, by some wind chimes - those too can be heard on the release. Elements of jazz, synth-wave, and dark ambient grace the recording. And as always, wistful theremin carries the melodies of the track.

theUse wasn’t held back by the need to create crude drops and 8bar structures, but rather was drawn into the process of creation that Manning described when she took that title “Kiss the Dark”. It is better to enter the cave and take the road less traveled.
